Water management for residential neighborhood
To address water nuisance during heavy rainfall, the municipality of Tilburg constructed the Blauwe Ader Connection with an overflow facility. This allows excess rainwater to be captured in the future-proof pond.

Municipality of Tilburg makes Kromhoutpark pond more sustainable

The pond liner in Kromhoutpark, Tilburg, needed replacement after 19 years; a perfect opportunity to make the pond more sustainable. Together with the residents and Bureau B+B (responsible for the original 1991 design), the Municipality of Tilburg updated the park’s design.

More biodiversity
Besides relieving the neighborhood’s sewer system, the pond attracts more insects and animals due to the adjusted planting in and around the pond. This increases biodiversity and contributes to a climate-resilient city.
Custom-made liner
Joosten Production and Welding Technology is responsible for the custom-made PVC liner. To minimize the number of welded seams and thus reduce installation time on site, large sections were prefabricated. After unrolling, these sections were welded together with hot air to create a watertight seal. PVC liner is strong and flexible, making it well suited for use as pond liner. Additionally, it is cadmium-free and harmless to fish and plants.
